ENERGY STAR Canada
Natural Resources Canada's certification program for energy-efficient products including windows, doors, and skylights, with performance requirements varying by climate zone.
ENERGY STAR Canada divides the country into three climate zones for windows and doors. Zone 1 (mildest, southern BC/Ontario) has the least stringent requirements, while Zone 3 (coldest, northern Canada) requires the highest performance levels.
To qualify, windows must meet both U-value and SHGC thresholds for their zone. The Energy Rating (ER) system provides a single number that balances U-value, SHGC, and air leakage. ENERGY STAR certification is often required for rebate programs like the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
